Abstract

The purpose of this brief essay was to analyze and evaluate the strategy employed by the United States Army Air Forces during World War 2 in the European theater, as well as its origins, evolution, and results. Mitchell, commander of U.S. Air Service operations, believed in the devastating capability of aerial bombardment. This is the point that marks the beginning of the plan called AWPD-1: the air offensive against German military power as a whole. To deny aerostrategic operations their fair share of victory is more than sophistry, it is to refuse statistical evidence.
