DENTAL DIGITAL RADIOLOGY IN THE “ESQUADRÃO DE SAÚDE DE FLORIANÓPOLIS”: CASE REPORT

Abstract

This article reports how was implemented the Digital Radiology at Dentistry Section in the “Esquadrão de Saúde de Florianópolis”. The objective was the need to modernize the existing dental radiodiagnostic making it digital. For so much, the existent Digital Systems were analyzed in comparison with the advantages of the CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) and PSP (Photostimulable Phosphor Plate) considering not only its technical aspects but also its biosafety, sustainability and legal characteristics. After analyzing the data and comparing the prices found through bidding process, the PSP was chosen for having greater advantages. It was found that the implementation of Digital Radiology at ES-FL brought numerous benefits to patients and professionals at the Institution such as the reduction of the patient's exposure dose, the possibility of images manipulation to improve diagnosis, the ease of communication between patients and between professionals in addition to the positive environmental impact, prompt service to patients and radioprotection to the user, to the professionals and to all the team.
