Abstract

With globalization and the need for better performance in organizations, the seek for effective leadership has increased However, even entrepreneurs investing a lot on training their employees, the result they obtained with the training was not as expected. Scholars, then, realized that leaders needed to develop the relational aspects in order to be able to perform their function well. The Brazilian Air Force Academy (AFA), which aims to train the future leaders of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), also seeks to develop in their cadets the aspects of an effective leadership. Thus, the concept of servant leadership, brought by Greenleaf (1970) focuses precisely on the relational aspects needed in a leader. Therefore, the objective of this work was to demonstrate the characteristics of servant leadership and propose the study and practice of it in the training of the cadets to complement the institutional objective of AFA. For that purpose, a bibliographic and documental review was made, which found an alignment between the values contained in AFA’s manuals and FAB’s documents and the characteristics of a servant leader.
