AVIATION REVIEWS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE: a linguistic analysis

This study analyses linguistically academic reviews about aviation written in the English Language, aiming to verify how they are written by researchers in the field in terms of lexical-grammatical choices. To this end, the study analyzes the terms most frequently used in aviation reviews published between 2017 and 2023, collected from the Aether platform. These reviews were stored in individual files in txt format and analyzed using the Wordsmith Tools (Scott, 2008) software, which offers tools to examine various linguistic aspects, such as lexical composition, thematic, rhetorical organization and provides statistical data. The research considers the role of English as a facilitator of global communication, influenced by technological development and international trade. In this context, and according to documents from the Air Force Command, Brazilian Air Force Officers need to have text comprehension skills in English. Therefore, the review is seen as a significant textual genre that aims to evaluate and synthesize academic books, emphasizing its importance in the academic environment and communication. Thus, the intention is to analyze this genre using the Functional Systemic Linguistics (LSF) theory as methodological support, which analyzes language in its social and cultural contexts. It is expected that the study will provide insights for the development of materials and teaching strategies for the English Language in the training course of Aviator Officers at the Air Force Academy.
