The cognitive interview (CI) is a structured information-gathering technique based on cognitive psychology, aimed at accessing detailed and accurate memories from witnesses and individuals involved in aeronautical occurrences. This article explores the application of CI in aviation safety investigations, highlighting its principles, steps, and benefits. The technique has demonstrated superior effectiveness compared to traditional interviews, fostering the retrieval of more comprehensive information and reducing biases. Practical examples illustrate how CI contributes to reconstructing complex events and formulating preventive recommendations. Although it presents challenges such as the need for specialized training and extended time, CI is emphasized as an essential method to enhance the quality and reliability of investigations, integrating human and technical data for operational safety improvement.
